Patrick Kailiawa

Patrick “Keala” Kailiawa, 40, of Pahala died Nov. 16, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born March 17, 1973, in Pahala, he worked for the Hawaii County Highway Maintenance Division and was a member of Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Friends may call at 5 p.m. Nov. 29 at the family residence in Pahala for an all-night vigil and 7 p.m. rosary. Friends may also call at 8 a.m. Nov. 30 at Pahala Holy Rosary Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Pahala Catholic Church Cemetery. Family requests casual attire be worn. Flowers and lei are welcome.

He is survived by fiancee, Kennielee Gaston of Pahala; sons, Patrick Kailiawa Jr. and Jahaziel Kailiawa, both of Pahala; sisters, Jan (Arthur) Kaleohano and Anna (Carlton) George, both of Pahala; brothers, Thomas (Jamie) Kailiawa III and Lincoln (Tessie) Kailiawa, both of Pahala, Napoleon (Jan) Kailiawa of Hilo; hanai brother, Loren Billington of Ocean View; one aunt; numerous uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Nanihau Kua

Nanihau “Nita” Mercedes Kua, 85, of Keaukaha died Nov. 17, 2013, at Hilo Medical Center. Born July 5, 1928, in Hilo, she was a retired bartender for Hilo Lanes Golden Room, a cashier for the former Awili Store and member of Malia Puka O Kalani Catholic Church in Keaukaha, Imua U.E. Club and Mikioi Club.

Friends may call at 8 a.m. Nov. 30 at Heritage Christian Fellowship, 165 E. Kawili St., Suite B, in Hilo for a 10 a.m. service. Burial follows at Homelani Memorial Park, section 4. Family requests casual attire be worn and no flowers.

She is survived by sons, John (Darolyn) Kua Jr., Clayton (Maggie) Kua, Jonathan (Carol) Kua and Chris (Haunani) Kua, all of Hilo; daughters, Natalie (Curt) Hanson of Hilo, Noleen (Howard) Mendes of Waimea, Crystal (Brian Bikle) Kua-Bikle of Kaaawa, Oahu, Kimberly (Russell Medeiros) Kua-Medeiros of Kapolei, Oahu, Beverly (Robert Brigoli) Kua of Mountain View; hanai son, Clifton John (Kasey) Kua of Mountain View; hanai daughter, Melissa (Terence Nachor) Kua-Nachor of Waikoloa; brothers, Kelii Ioane of Honolulu, Kahuwila Ioane of Hilo, Myles (Roslyn) Ioane of Tucson, Ariz.; sisters, Noelani Kapuni and Barbara (William) Manuwa, both of Hilo; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Ichiro Ohashi

Ichiro Ohashi, 92, of Mountain View died Nov. 6, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Dec. 18, 1920, in Mountain View, he was a retired carpenter and member of Puna Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, Baldwin Kumiai, Hiroshima Kenjinkai and the Carpenters Union.

Friends may call at 10 a.m. Nov. 30 at Dodo Mortuary chapel in Hilo for an 11 a.m. service. Family requests casual attire be worn.

He is survived by wife, Makiko Ohashi of Mountain View; son, Glenn (Kathy Isherwood) Ohashi of Hilo; daughters, Arleen Ogasawara of Kaneohe, Oahu, Iris (Ryan Camero) Ohashi of Hilo; sisters, Satsue Watanabe and Aiko Fujimoto, both of Hilo; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces.

Amos Agliam

Amos Ken “Tako” Agliam, 41, of Hilo died Nov. 15, 2013, at Kona Community Hospital. Born April 23, 1972, in Hilo, he was a truck driver for C&F Trucking in Keaau and member of the Hawaiian Iron Motorcycle Club.

A motorcycle run will be held at 9 a.m. Dec. 1 in Hilo. Friends may call at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at Dodo Mortuary chapel for a noon service. Family requests casual attire be worn. Lei are welcome.

He is survived by companion, Kelly Waiau of Hilo; hanai daughter, Raquel Balga of Hilo; hanai son, Keola Balga of Hilo; father, Albert Kanoa of Hilo; mother, Petronilla Agliam of Pepeekeo; brothers, Allen Agliam of Hilo, Thomas Agliam and Elvis Agliam, both of Pepeekeo, Karl Agliam of Keaau; sister, Romaine Castro of Pepeekeo; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Evonne Howard-Lee

Evonne E. Leialoha Howard-Lee, 87, of Kawaihae died Nov. 13, 2013, at Hale Hoola Hamakua in Honokaa. Born Dec. 7 1925, in Hilo, she was a retired school teacher in Waimea.

Services will be held at a later date.

She is survived by daughter, Merle Ah Hee of Kawaihae; son, Frank (Laverne) Howard of Waimea; brother, Christian Leialoha of Papaikou; sister, Katherine Seay of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Akio Saito

Akio Saito, 86, of Volcano died Nov. 20, 2013, at his residence. Born on Maui, he was the retired owner of Outboard Sales and Service.

He is survived by wife, Theresa Ching-Saito of Volcano; sons, Glen (Tomoko) Saito of Honolulu, Warren Saito of Las Vegas, Kenji (Mari) Saito of Hawaii Kai, Oahu; brothers, Stan (Pearl) Saito of Paia, Maui, Fred Saito of Kaneohe, Oahu; sisters, Ethel Miyashiro of Honolulu, Grace (Berg) Fujimoto of Aiea, Oahu; two grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Fusae Kamigaki

Fusae Kamigaki, 91, of Kealakekua died Oct. 28, 2013, at home. Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Captain Cook, she was the owner of Kamigaki Market in Kealakekua and member of Kona Hongwanji, Kumamoto Kenjinkai, Hiroshima Kenjinkai, Bank Kumiai, Business Professional Women’s Club and Lea Lea Women’s Golf Club.

Private services were held. Family requests no monetary gifts or flowers.

She is survived by sons, Burt (Susan) Kamigaki of Captain Cook, Miron Kamigaki of Kealakekua, Earl (Brenda) Kamigaki of Parker, Colo.; daughter, Fay Kamigaki of Kealakekua; sister, Emi Matsumura of Kealakekua; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth Ellis

Kenneth L. Ellis, 61, of Kailua-Kona died Nov. 20, 2013, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born June 6, 1952, in Texas, he was a tour guide captain.

He is survived by daughter, Sheree Ellis; sister, Tori Stevens; one grandson.

Augustina Mercado

Augustina Mercado, 81, of Pahala died Nov. 8, 2013, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Oct. 1, 1932, in Hilo she was a mill worker for Ka‘u Agribusiness Co. Inc. in Pahala and also worked at Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Co.

Private services were held.

She is survived by husband, Leoveguildo Mercado of Pahala; sons, Peter (Terri) Cabreros and David (Stephanie) Cabreros, both of Keaau; daughters, Caridad (Kenneth) Bargamento of Germany, Marvine Mercado of Honolulu; sisters, Flora Cabreros of Paauilo, Olivia Satomba of Pepeekeo, Mary Jane (Leo) Holson of Washington state; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren.

George Christensen

George “Chris” Lytle Christensen, 69, of Pahoa died Nov. 19, 2013, at his home. Born Nov. 6, 1944, in Florida, he was a contractor and Army veteran.
